Richard Farrell and Richard Ray Farrell have led lives as similar as their names. Both
have been busking and touring their way around Europe since they were young, honing
their craft and living their common passion for Blues music. Richard Ray has played with
and learned first hand from blues greats such as R.L Burnside and Frank Frost.
Richard is a Dubliner living in Copenhagen while Richard Ray is a Niagara native, with
Corkonian roots, who has moved to Spain. Yes, that’s a lot of Richard Farrells. And a lot of
place names too. But you’ll find them both on the same stage this May.
Last June, in a blues bar in Copenhagen, somebody mentioned to Richard that there was
another bluesman out there with a virtually identical name. What was initially idle bar chat
turned into a mini obsession and soon an email with the subject ‘Long Lost Blues Cousin?’
was winging its way to Richard Ray. It took mere days for a plan to be hatched — a joint
tour of Ireland and Denmark.
The Blues Cousins Tour will take both men from Copenhagen all the way to West Cork,
via Dublin.
Each show will feature solo performances from both musicians, followed by a collaborative
end as the long lost blues cousins play their favourite tunes together. This will be a musi-
cal reunion like no other. Two Richard Farrells from different sides of the world, playing on
one stage, on spiritual journey back to their roots.
Speaking ahead of the tour Richard Farrell (Dublin) said: “Opportunities as heartwarm-
ing and farfetched as this only come knocking if you dream them to happen, I can’t
wait!
While Richard Ray Farrell (Niagra) commented: “It seems that fate has drawn
my namesake and I together for a musical journey that will surely enhance our artis-
tic endeavours and bring joy to our fans
