Poetic rock and roll guitar slingers who deal out heartfelt, intricate and life-affirming songs that immediately become your best friend, Groom are a tremendously fun live band who roll the trad vibes of The Faces and White Album-era Beatles with the nerd-smarts of Belle and Sebastian and Jonathan Richman.Hailing from Dublin, they are Mike, Wil, Jeroen and Ruan. They have released four albums and an EP to date: ‘All This Happened, More Or Less’ (2006, Fairview House), ‘At The Natural History Museum’ (2009, Tight Ship), ‘Marriage’ (Popical Island, 2010), Brothers and Sisters (EP, Popical Island, 2013). A fourth album, ‘Bread and Jam’, has just been released on Popical Island.

Groom have played Ireland, UK and mainland Europe. With some other Irish pop bands they formed the Popical Island collective in 2010. Groom have been covered or mentioned on RTE (Under Ether music show), played frequently on 2FM radio, Phantom FM (Ireland) and Subcity Radio (Glasgow), in the Irish Times (Arts/Culture and Weekend sections), The Ticket , the Irish Independent (best Irish album of 2010), Hot Press magazine, State Magazine, Alternative Ulster, Nialler9.com. Popical Island has had also had much coverage in all the above as well as in the NME, Drowned in Sound and many popular blogs and radio shows.

“a gloriously accomplished collection of prime indie-pop with a distinctly Irish bent” – The Ticket

“Latest album Bread and Jam (August 9th), shows us a band with a new level of confidence.” –
Aoife Barry, New Found Sounds
“Each return visit to the record reveals a flourish, be it lyrical or instrumental that can’t help but make you crack a smile.”
