The group was formed in 2004 by Steve Brooks (ex-Floor), Juan Montoya (ex-Floor, ex-Cavity, ex-Ed Matus Struggle), Jonathan Nuñez and Rick Smith (who also played in the bands Shitstorm, Tyranny of Shaw, Adore Miridia, the screamo band Tunes for Bears to Dance To, and punk band Post-Teens). In 2011, Andrew Elstner (Riddle of Steel,Tilts) joined Torche. With gloriously sung, harmonized and soaring vocal arrangements accompanying the most monolithic riffs of modern times, Torche reaches to push the envelope and then engulfs it in flames. Torche embarked on tours with bands such as Dredg, Mogwai, High on Fire, Isis, Pelican, Baroness, Boris, Hot Water Music and Harvey Milk. Their third album, “Harmonicraft”, is a summation of in-flux firsts: This is Torche’s first full-length since the wonderful 2008 breakthrough “Meanderthal”. “Restarter” is the brand new album released on Relapse Records. Containing what the band describes as some of their “heaviest songs to date,” the record was mixed by Converge’s Kurt Ballou and is once again a masterful combination of top-notch songwriting and soaring, harmonic vocals. Torche is here to prove that they are heavier, louder and more hum-able than anyone else.
