About
The Bionic Rats
were formed in Dublin, Ireland
in 2006 by singer and songwriter Del Bionic
after the break up of
Dublin reggae outfit #kingsativa.
A constantly moving and evolving project
that has taken many twists & turns over the years
but the vision of creating honest music
you can dance to has never wavered.
Inspired by :
Foundation Jamaican Ska
Rocksteady
Early (boss) Reggae
U.K. Pop Reggae
Roots (rock) Reggae
Dub
sprinklings of 80s Dancehall
and a whole heap of 2tone Ska
Doc Martens boots featured the Bionic Rats original song Dear John
in the 2013 ‘Stand For Something’ campaign.
The Bionic Rats appeared on The Imelda May Show in 2015.
We have opened up for many of our musical influences
including:
Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry
Horace Andy
Madness
Bad Manners
Imelda May
Israel Vibration
Johnny Clarke
The Jolly Boys
The Selecter
Damien Dempsey
The Beat
(both Dave Wakeling’s
& the late great Ranking Roger’s*
versions of the band)
*The late, sorely missed, Ranking Roger, with his son Murphy,
joined us in The Grand Social, Dublin for ‘Ranking Full Stop’
& toasted over a dubbed out version of Eek-a-Mouse’s ‘Ganja Smuggling’
which sadly was to be his last performance on a Irish Stage.
